Montreal is a city of festivals, which occur throughout the year. At the January’s end, the Fete de Neiges – the festival of snow is celebrated with skating, ice carving and tube slides. There is a major St Patrick’s Day Parade that is dedicated to the large part of the population of Montreal celebrating their Irish origins.
The International Fireworks Festival is one of best in the world that is celebrated in the early summer. It is held at La Ronde, which is located on the Parc des Iles a series of islands in the St. Lawrence that were originally developed for Expo ’67 – the World’s Fair of 1967. In June, there is a Canadian Grand Prix, this is one of the two Formula 1 races in North America. Fete Nationale, celebrated on June 24, also know as St Jean Baptiste Day is a national holiday of Quebec, this includes a big parade.
At the beginning of July, there is world renowned Montreal Jazz Festival. Many concerts are free and are held at various venues throughout the city. This is a really big attraction, so it is advisable to book the accommodations as early as possible. Just-for-Laughs Comedy Festival is also famous in the same way, in this bilingual event more than 200 performers participate and over half a million attendees. Few of the acts are free of costs, but for others there is an admission fee.
Du Maurier Classic is a large Tennis Tournament that features top competitors. At the starting of august there is Montreal International Gay and Lesbian Pride Festival that is a fun time for everybody. In the early fall, there is the Montreal World Film Festival that held at many theatres around the town. Fant-Asia is an interesting sub-event that features many of the top Asian films that you won’t find in the typical local cinema.
